Operation Polo: Police Action: Telangana Liberation Day
75th Anniversary of Annexure of Hyderabad:
On September 17, 1948, the Nizam Of Hyderabad surrendered to the Indian Army a significant event in Indian history that shaped the present political map of India. After the Independence of India, the negotiations between the Indian Govt. and the Nizam failed, and he declared Hyderabad an independent state in June 1947. The Nizam was a Muslim ruler over a predominantly Hindu population. He was also worried about the loss of his autonomy and wealth if he joined India. The Indian Government was concerned about the Razakaras militia who were patronized by Nizam and was responsible for atrocities against the Hindu population in Hyderabad. On 13, September 1948, the Indian government launched Operation Polo, a military operation to annex Hyderabad. The Indian Army quickly overwhelmed the Hyderabadi forces, and the Nizam surrendered on September 17, 1948. This event marked the end of Nizam's rule over the princely state of Hyderabad and its integration into the Indian Union. Since, the last year 2022, the present Indian government has been celebrating this event as "Liberation Day" and marks this year as the completion of the 75th Anniversary of the "Telangana Liberation Day"
WHO's World Patient Safety Day: 17 September
World Patient Safety Day is observed annually on September 17th to spread awareness around the world about patient safety and measures to protect them from harm. It was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2019 to highlight the issue of patient safety and to promote a global culture of safety in healthcare.

Occupy Wall Street began on September 17, 2011, in Zuccotti Park, New York City, US. It was a protest movement against social and economic inequality, greed, corruption, and the undue influence of corporations on government. It also inspired other social movements, such as the Black Lives Matter movement.
NASA Unviels USS Enterprise:
On September 17, 1976, the US space agency NASA publicly unveiled its first space shuttle, the Enterprise, during a ceremony in Palmdale, California. The Enterprise was a test vehicle that was not capable of spaceflight, but it played an important role in the development of future space shuttle programs. The Enterprise is now on display at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City.
2006 Gyurcsány Audio Tape: A Political-Election Scandal:
On 17, September 2006, an audio tape of a private speech by Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány was leaked to the public. In the speech, Gyurcsány admitted that his Hungarian Socialist Party had lied to voters in order to win the 2006 election. He said that the party had lied about the state of the economy and that it had made promises that it could not keep. There were widespread protests of people who took to the streets to demand Gyurcsány's resignation. The protests lasted many weeks and ultimately led to the collapse of his government.
World War II: Operation Market Garden: Battle of Arnhem
Operation Market Garden was a major but failed Allied military operation during World War II. It began on September 17, 1944, when Allied paratroopers landed in the Netherlands and Germany in an attempt to capture a series of bridges over the Rhine River and its tributaries. The Operation is also known as The Battle of Arnhem, as it took place in and around the Dutch city of Arnhem, from 17 to 26 September 1944.

NASA astronaut Francisco Rubio has broken the US record for the longest single spaceflight, spending 357 days on the International Space Station. His mission was originally only supposed to last six months but was extended due to a coolant leak on his Soyuz MS-22 ferry ship.
Rubio's mission is due to end when he touches down back to Earth in Kazakhstan this month. He will have completed an incredible 371 days in space, which is more than any other American astronaut.
The previous record for the longest single spaceflight by an American was held by astronaut Mark Vander Hei with 355 days. The world record for the longest single spaceflight is held by Russian cosmonaut Valeri Polyakov with 437 days.
